Materion Balzers Optics fabricates robust glass flow cells for life science, medical devices and chemical analysis. By combining two or more structured glass layers, customized channel architectures can be designed. External and internal surfaces can be further modified with optical coatings (e. g. IR mirrors, fluorescence filters), nano-features like grating structures or biofunctional coatings. These components are applied for microfluidic biochips to analyze small fluid volumes to reduce the cost of reagents in specific applications. The flow cells are compatible with autoclave and UV-light sterilization and ultrasonic and chemical cleaning and are manufactured in high volumes by taking advantage of cost effective wafer-level production technologies.
